Case Study: AGPC Credentials

Short form

A credentials system that let a handful of staff scale the Australian Grand Prix Corporation from 40 people to more than 16,000 for the Formula 1 event, and control who could go where, for nearly twenty years.

The challenge

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation grows from around 40 staff through the year to more than 16,000 for the primary Formula 1 event and 4,000 for the MotoGP. Accrediting that many contractors, deciding who may enter which zones and where they may park, and doing it securely, is a large and unforgiving job.

What we built

We helped AGPC design and build a credentials management solution that controls the whole workflow: collecting contractor details, allocating parking and zone access to the ground, and managing the approval chain with the relevant AGPC staff. Contractors submit requests for all their people, noting the job to be done and the access needed, and the system routes each request for internal approval and prints the passes staff wear around their necks. We then supported and improved the system for each event.

The outcome

A small core team can manage an enormous surge in workforce, define the areas of the ground and issue the right credentials to the right people. In effect the system defines and controls security across the grounds for every F1 and MotoGP event. Redgum built, maintained and extended this critical capability alongside AGPC for close to twenty years.

“Thank you for working with us to deliver one of the most successful Australian Motorcycle Grands Prix on record. We could not have achieved this without you.”
