Case Study: SimaVita

Short form

The software backbone behind SimaVita's digital nappy, turning sensor data into predictions that let aged care staff respond before an event, not after.

The challenge

SimaVita had an ambitious concept: a digital nappy that could track specific events in aged care patients, so care could be predicted and delivered proactively rather than reactively. What they needed was a robust software package that could handle the data these devices produced.

What we built

Redgum provided the technological backbone, using our SaaS expertise: the database collecting the live sensor feeds, the web interface nurses use to monitor patients, and the reporting platform that lets them build individual care plans from real patterns rather than guesswork. With the data flowing, we helped design the algorithm that predicts when a patient is about to have an event — alerting staff before it happens, not after. Redgum worked as the software part of the Simavita team through design, development and the clinical trials that took the product to market.

The outcome

Staff could respond proactively and cut response times, and residents were not left waiting for care, which lifted their quality of life. For facilities with hundreds of residents the savings multiplied: less staff time, lower cleaning costs and fewer replacement materials, measured as real savings per bed per day. The solution won an ITAC award (Information Technology in Aged Care), proved the concept and completed SimaVita's product suite, giving them something unique to sell. The company has since rebranded to Smart Z Technology, a milestone in the journey from start-up idea to market-ready product.
