Case Study: Tool World Core Algorithm

Short form

The foolproof quoting engine at the core of Tool World's system: accurate enough that anyone could produce a correct quote, and hard enough to get wrong that key-person risk disappeared.

The challenge

Tool World, a wholesale jeweller producing rings and other jewellery, ran its quotation process on a few key people. If they were unavailable, the whole operation could stall. The pricing logic itself was the hard part.

What we built

Redgum built the algorithm at the core of an automated quoting system. It was designed to be user-friendly and foolproof, making it nearly impossible to enter incorrect information, so anyone in the office could take a call and produce a correct quote that the system generated and sent to the retail jeweller. The first version let Tool World track clients, monitor quotes and see which had been accepted. The second put that same engine behind a simple internet interface for retail staff.

The outcome

The bottleneck was gone, and key-person risk with it. Retailers could get quotes on the spot, and because the system was the quickest and most accurate to use, they preferred it over calling around, which lifted the volume of work. It became a reference site for other companies, and its success let Tool World open their own retail interface and invest in expansion. Get the core right, and everything built on it holds.
